Becky Waters
HAT school and current role:
Headteacher at Dogsthorpe Infant School
Areas of educational expertise and experience:
Early Years/Primary
Becky started at Dogsthorpe Infant School as an NQT in 2001, teaching in Reception. Her first leadership role at the school was as the Assistant Headteacher followed by Senior Assistant Head and then she progressed into the Deputy role. Becky was asked to become Acting Headteacher and then was appointed full-time Head in April 2015.
The school has had a difficult Ofsted journey and was placed into Special Measures in 2007, soon after Becky became Assistant Headteacher. She took over the role of Assessment Leader and implemented new tracking systems across the school as well as a new monitoring approach. Becky was praised in the final inspection report for the significant role she played in the school being taken out of this category.
In 2013, the school was inspected again and was placed into the ‘Requires Improvement’ category. Through the commitment, hard work and determination of the staff team, the school received a ‘Good’ grading in 2016 and maintained this in the most recent inspection in 2019.
Throughout her time at the school, Becky has taught in all year groups and has, at one time or another, led each year group. She has held a variety of leadership roles including Assessment, EAL, SENDCO, RE, PSHE and Maths.
Becky is proud of the journey the school has been on and the part it plays in the local community. Through introducing a new uniform, logo, motto and values, the children and their families know that at DIS they will ‘Dream, Believe, Shine’!
